New #IFM Journal issue has launched | We are pleased to announce the release of Volume 5, a continuous issue titled Resonances: Expanding Narrative Horizons in Interactive Media and Combinatory Cinema. This evolving collection features scholarly articles by Patrícia Nogueira, Roderick Coover, Jasmin Kermanchi, Pavel Prokopic, and Jayne Sayer. The volume examines the aesthetic, ethical, and political dimensions of interactivity in audiovisual media—from participatory i-docs and algorithmic cinema to immersive installations and spatial narratives of migration. New articles will be added on a rolling basis throughout the year, through May 2026, as part of IFM Journal’s new continuous publication model.
In parallel, Volume 4 stands as the official proceedings of last year’s IFM Annual Conference. It includes the complete collection of scholarly video presentations and research-creation demonstrations showcased at the event, each assigned a unique DOI for citation and archival reference. These multimodal contributions reflect the journal’s ongoing commitment to hybrid and experimental publishing formats that bridge theory and practice.
Stay tuned as the Interactive Film and Media Journal continues to grow and deepen the conversation across the fields of interactive film, media arts, and digital storytelling.

Updates to conference time
| Among the #IFM community’s greatest strengths is its international profile. At our online conferences, participants from across the globe come together in meaningful dialogue and lively discussions about interactive film and media. From Dallas to New Delhi, Buenos Aires to Maiduguri, bringing everyone together online is critical to our mission, but not easy to accomplish, given the varying time zones from which our participants join the conference.
This year we have modified our conference time window to better accommodate all participants. We will begin each day at 10:50GMT (5:50 am Dallas/6:50 am Toronto/11:50 am London/2:50 pm Dubai/4:20 pm New Delhi). We are hoping that this change will make the conference more accessible to the #IFM community.

Updates to conference structure |
Last year we experimented with dedicating a day of the conference to research creation sessions. This year, each day will begin with opening remarks or interactive dialogues. The opening session will be followed by either research creation or new book sessions, then panels. On the final day of the conference, the last session will be a synthesis of key conference themes, takeaways, and a reflective framework for next year’s conference. |
